About Us

Knowing that God had called him to the pastoral ministry, Pastor Troy Johnson was compelled to do what God required of him. After much prayer, fasting and seeking direction from God, Pastor Johnson was lead to organize the Fresh Start Community Church of Houston Texas. Lead by the Holy Spirit he began with a Bible study, and for two months beginning July 15, 2009 the fledgling ministry met at the Comfort Suite Hotel on South Main Street in Houston Texas. There were 23 people in attendance at the first meeting, and the group began a complete survey of the book of John.

On July 25, Rev. Johnson called the Fresh Start Community Church’s, first business meeting at Shoney’s Restaurant; it was then that the decision was made to begin looking for a place to hold the first worship service. The target date was set for the 1st Sunday in September, 2009.That very evening, the hand of God moved. Rev Johnson received a call from Mother Bayonne Moody, she offered her building at 2411 Dowling for worship service, Rev Johnson accepted. After surveying the building; It was determined that work needed to be done in order to meet the 1st Sunday in September, 2009.

On August 3, Fresh Start started holding Monday Bible study at their new building, on Dowling Street. Starting August 2, 2009, and for the next few Sundays, worship took the form of preparing the building for formal worship. The people of God and Pastor Troy Johnson , buffed floors, painted walls, cleaned and upholstered chairs, stained furniture, cleaned ceiling fans, mirrors, put up light fixtures, and laid floors, in preparation for the first worship service.

God’s church began to come together. Fresh Start was blessed by others with everything they needed; a pulpit, chairs, a sound system and more. Leaders were put in place, a Minister of music and a praise team; a Board of Elders, Pastor Johnson also selected an executive pastor, a Chief Financial Officer, a Church Administrator, a church Administrative Assistant and a Personal Assistant to the Pastor.

On September 6, 2009 Fresh Start had its first worship service with over 100 in attendance; it could only be described as exciting, electrifying, and spirit filled. The Fresh Start Community Church had 15 members to officially join at the first Sundays worship service and in less than one year that number has tripled, (51members).

On August 16, 2009, Fresh Start celebrated its first youth Sunday. Every third Sunday is youth lead worship.. On November 1, 2009, 3 candidates were baptized. On December 15, 2009 Fresh Start donated 42 food baskets for thanksgiving to the Thompson Elementary School, which we have adopted and committed to help needy families and students. This marked Fresh Start first Community Outreach activity.
